  Most Popular Holiday Shows
Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol Oct 30 - Dec 9, 2018
Geffen Playhouse Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol

Tony Award-winning actor Jefferson Mays (I Am My Own Wife, A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder) breathes new life into the greatest ghost story ever told. While the heart of A Christmas Carol is timeless, Mays brings fresh perspective to Scrooge, Bob Cratchit, Tiny Tim and the rest, playing every role in this whirlwind one-man show. Tony Award-nominated director Michael Arden (Once On This Island, Deaf West’s production of Spring Awakening) creates a wildly theatrical and spectacular experience. This world-premiere adaptation of a beloved story of redemption offers an early—and unexpected—start to the holiday season.

The Santaland Diaries Nov 30 - Dec 16, 2018
Santa Monica Playhouse The Santaland Diaries

Craving a little splash of vodka in your Christmas cheer? Prefer watching Bad Santa over It's a Wonderful Life? Think naughty > nice? David Sedaris sympathizes. In 1992, the now-famous humorist wrote an autobiographical essay about being broke and working as an elf at the massive Macy's department store in New York. The essay was adapted into a one-man show, and it's now the funniest, most irreverent anti-holiday classic. If you need a break from a crazy family, mall madness or cloying carols, Patrick Censoplano dons the candy-cane tights for a heaping dose of (anti)holiday hilarity in The Santaland Diaries at The Other Space at Santa Monica Playhouse. Arrive half an hour early for a little extra cheer -- your ticket includes a pre-show toast with a glass of champagne or nonalcoholic eggnog. This show is not suitable for children younger than age 15.

Santa Monica Playhouse All About Santa

All About Santa, a heart-warming tale of love and generosity, togetherness and friendship, with enough goodwill and cheer for all. It's holiday time at the North Pole and everyone is in a tizzy - Santa has disappeared. Is he taking a vacation? Did the sleigh run out of spirits? Can Mrs. Claus keep the home fires burning and the toy shop churning until he can be found? And to make matters worse, who should appear on the scene but the Suits - the Mad Men from Badison Avenue - ready and willing to "solve" the problem with a host of plans to make the holidays even more commercial than ever. The good North Pole folk in this heart-warming Victorian yuletide musical almost succumb to these sinister hijinks, but, with the help of the audience, love and good cheer conquers all, leaving the way clear for still another happy holiday season!

Maybe he’ll vacation on Mars and attend an “Interplanetary Party.” Or maybe he’ll play it “Smooth” and lay low down south in Cabo. Will the Heatmeiser tell his brother the Snowmeiser to change his “Evil Ways?” Will Santa say “Hey, Mrs. Claus, ‘Why Don’t You and I’ get together and take a snowboarding lesson?” Will the Troubies come to the rescue and save Christmas? This holiday season, bring the familia to North Hollywood’s El Portal Theatre to party and laugh “Into the Night.”
