The Hot Chocolate Nutcracker (a two-time Goldstar National Nutcracker Award winner) gives the seasonal favorite a rich new cultural context and updated characters, and features a lively contemporary score with original songs from multiple-Grammy-winner Mariah Carey and others. After young Kara receives a nutcracker filled with hot chocolate, she falls asleep and journeys to enchanted lands, including Candy Cane Lane, Egypt, the Rainforest, Jazzland, Russia and the Land of the Kimono Dolls. Great for all ages, little ones will have no trouble following along thanks to the narration by three wisecracking mice. It tells the story of a loveable, nerdy "guy group" from the 50s and 60s ( in the style of the Four Lads, The Four Freshman and The Crew Cuts) who were struck down in the prime of life and are now sent back to Earth to perform the big holiday concert they never got to perform in life. The show includes holiday favorites such as "Cool Yule," "Let it Snow," and "Joy to the World"; a hysterically funny speed-date version of "The Ed Sullivan Show" featuring the Rockettes, the Chipmunks and The Vienna Boys Choir; and other memorable hits from the era, like "Sh-Boom," "Fever" and "Hey There."

This past year, LBSC has brought several villains to the Helen Borgers Theatre (Iago, Mephistopheles, and Tamora, just to name a few). Now, with The Plot to Overthrow Christmas, we bring you more villains in a single dose than you've seen all year. Written by her father's close friend, Norman Corwin, this piece was a favorite of Helen's, and we dedicate it to her, along with some of her favorite poems sprinkled throughout, such as "King John's Christmas" by A.A. Milne and "The Cremation of Sam McGee" by Robert Service.

Patrick Censoplano once again dons the candy-cane tights for a Santa Monica Playhouse holiday celebration in this outrageously funny one-man play from NPR's well-loved humorist David Sedaris. The SantaLand Diaries, based on Sedaris's experiences as an unemployed writer taking a job as an elf at Macy's department store in New York City, takes a wry look at how the holiday season brings out the best - and the worst - in us all. This delightfully tart, cheerfully twisted holiday tale, directed by Chris DeCarlo, adapted by Joe Mantello.

Lythgoe Family Panto's fun spin on Snow White brings all the slapstick fun and audience participation that Pantos are known for - and even features a pre-recorded video illusion of the Magic Mirror played by (how's this for perfect casting?) actor-magician Neil Patrick Harris. Additional cast members include Garrett Clayton as The Huntsman, Disney's Olivia Sanabia as Snow White and Destiny's Child's Michelle Williams as The Queen.

He comes back in his dream where he's visited by ex-business partner, Hank Walker, who plays the ghost of Christmas past, present, and future.
