Without Annette Reviews

"...I'll recommend WITHOUT ANNETTE to those who are fans of improvisation, if only to sit in their seats and gloat "I coulda done it better". Some of the acting is good, some of it is self-conscious. Mr. Doucette's direction is efficient and we do have the amazing Laurence Juber on guitar, which could very well be worth the price of admission."

"...For those seeking a live, ‘never a dull moment,' night of Improv, quite reminiscent of the work done on Chicago's Second City stage, this is the show to see– talented comic actors playing everyday real people. It's easy to see why this show has already received wide acclaim and accolades."

"...The cast I saw was great fun and undeniably talented… as each bared their characters' souls with HYSTERICAL and HEARTWRENCHING skill, in turns."

"...But, just as like any good improv troupe, it's the strength of the whole group that makes the show work and director Jeff Doucette, who co-wrote the play with Hope Juber, has clearly done a lot of good work in rehearsal to help the large cast sparkle. The only comedy lesson it maybe misses is knowing when to leave the stage and, in the interests of less is more, cutting some running time from the overlong finale would make for an even more impactful and emotional theatre-going experience."

"...Go see this play, and if possible with both casts. Each performance has a combination of scripted and improv material, and will be ever so slightly different from each other, so seeing it several times is a definite MUST SEE. The key to good comedy is great timing, and WITHOUT ANNETTE has great timing. It also has great actors, great writing, great music, and is an evening of laughter and fun. You can't ask for more than that."

"...The art of Improv is a delicate one, and the margin of error is slight. The great news is that the world-premiere of Without Annette at the Whitefire Theatre in Sherman Oaks flies off the stage with such a stunning energy that it renders the audience helpless with laughter."

"...It is difficult to give away too much as it will spoil your enjoyment of the proceedings. but I can truthfully say that all actors and anyone else in show business will enjoy the banter about the ins and outs of the biz and the actual improvs themselves. Just think of life as one big improv…and there you have it!"

"...Improvisation is the ability to perform without preparation, about being in a moment of truth and bringing the audience with you. This connection creates a spontaneous reaction between performer and audience, resulting in anything from uproarious laughter to anguished tears – or any emotion in between. Anyone wishing to experience this sensation should get their butts to a performance of Without Annette."

"...Twenty-three insanely inventive actors. A hilarious script. And a world-class guitarist to strum them through the scene changes. And they do it all without Annette! It's Hope Juber and Jeff Doucette's ad lib extravaganza Without Annette, now having its World Premiere at the Whitefire Theatre in Sherman Oaks."
