White Rabbit Red Rabbit, the global sensation by Iranian playwright Nassim Soleimanpour explores the restrictions, censorship and denial of individual choice faced under a harsh regime. A theater experience like no other. At each performance, a different actor will step onto the stage and be handed a script they’ve never seen before. No rehearsal, no director. Every night is opening night — no repeats. At the top of each week, a different set of “rabbits” will be revealed.

"...“White Rabbit Red Rabbit,” which doesn’t rely on the services of a director, can be thought of as a theatrical message in a bottle. Soleimanpour wrote the play about 15 years ago when he was without a passport for not having fulfilled his required military service. Unable to travel and fearful of what might happen to him next, he wrote the piece to communicate with an unforeseeable future."

"...The beauty of this amazing idea is that the flow and success of the script turns on how committed the actor is to following the stage directions and to what degree the audience comes to their aid. Totally presentatonal.. except maybe the rabbit and the bear briefly.. It all worked. The business of the White Rabbit and Red Rabbit experiment is a little hard to report. I wish I had the script to refer to. I'd like to see if I could report it properly."

"...Pretty much every theater production's live performance can be a bit different on a given night. Often it is inadvertent - a missed cue, a dropped prop, or hopefully a new dramatic inkling from the performers. But in the case of Iranian playwright Nassim Soleimanpour, the whole point of the show is difference. No rehearsal. No director. A different actor at each solo performance. The actors do not see the script until it is unsealed for them just as they step on stage to perform it. A bold experiment? A disaster in the making? That all depends on the bond of trust between the actor and audience as they embark on Soleimanpour's timely and thought-provoking journey, a stirring critique of authoritarianism and the tragedy of how easily well-meaning people acquiesce to it - even some of us in the audience."
