The Group Rep at the Lonny Chapman Theatre was established in May 1973 by a small ensemble of 12 actors performing in a converted laundromat. Artistic Director Lonny Chapman played a crucial role in shaping the theater's identity, with the inaugural production of "Round Dance" quickly gaining popularity. As the company grew, it transitioned from a modest 36-seat venue to larger spaces, eventually moving to its current location in 1980. The theater was officially renamed the "Lonny Chapman Theatre" in 1999 in honor of its founder, who continued to influence its vision until his passing in 2007. Over the years, The Group Rep has produced more than 200 shows, including 37 World Premieres, and boasts over 80 active company members-from seasoned professionals to emerging artists. In addition to theatrical productions, the company is committed to community service, hosting an annual holiday party for foster children and offering internships through its PATA program, which has helped launch the careers of notable figures in the industry. The Group Rep aims to fulfill Lonny Chapman's vision of entertaining and illuminating the human experience, fostering a collaborative environment among the audience, actors, and plays.
