"...The horrifying murder of college student Matthew Shepard - a small-framed, 21-year-old man who was beaten and left to die strapped to a fence outside Laramie, Wyo. - created a haunting image indelibly imprinted in the minds of many Americans. His death in 1998 also marked a moment of reckoning for Americans on how we think about and treat members of the LGBTQ community, as well as serving as a wake-up call to the lack of hate crime laws in many states."

"...Director Kathleen Delaney has done a masterful job, expertly using the bare playing area and seemingly all of the small theatre, with entrances and exits utilizing all three aisles, making the space and the piece even more intimate. She has chosen a diverse cast of 11 that play the original interviewers and the subjects they interviewed. Each actor performs several roles, each perfectly nuanced, from ranchers to bartenders, from sheriffs to murderers. The tension builds incrementally during the second act as each actor, after a monologue, places a piece of wood unto what will eventually resemble the split-rail fence upon which Shepard died."

"...Director Kathleen Delaney uses a large production of 11 fine actors to play several roles, all portraying the wide variety of points of view related to this case. Delaney blocks her actors to create a continuous sense of movement that reflects the frenetic pace of the events, specially the media coverage of the critical days that preceded Shepard's death and the controversial trial that followed."
