"...I only caught one production on the weekend and it was a WINNER in all aspects of theatrical magic! This classic, audience-pleasing musical still touches the heart and tickles the funny bone after decades of performances worldwide. The 15 songs threading the fairytale-like storyline are touching, romantic and humorous in turns, and are BEAUTIFULLY PERFORMED by this fine cast (music by Harvey Schmidt, lyrics by Tom Jones). It was directed with PLAYFUL PASSION by Lisaun Whitingham and accompanied on piano by Caleb Russell with FLAIRFUL skill."

"...Known as the world's longest-running musical (Off-Broadway from 1960-2002), this fanciful fable by composer Harvey Schmidt and librettist Tom Jones is widely considered a gem. Alternating whimsy, Shakespearean-flavored romance, slapstick and slightly darker elements, the simple love story has a classical feel."

"...The Crown City Theatre acting veteran has also assembled a talented cast that comprehends the intensity of the paradoxes and dichotomies on foot and papyrus here."

"...The cast work very well together. Hansen is strong, dashing and wonderfully sly and mischievous as El Gallo. Gabrielle as Luisa adds sweetness and lust for adventure to her character, as well as a lovely lilting soprano voice. Marchak as Matt should be slightly less exuberant, letting his masculine urges come from the inside. As is, he is a bit overly enthusiastic and needs to pull in somewhat. Stanley is delightful as Bella, Luisa's mother, with big broad comedic strokes and a wonderfully theatrical singing voice."
