A modern rhyming verse translation of Lope de Vega's Romeo and Juliet play. Lope's version was written approximately 400 years ago and not based on Shakespeare's play, but based on the same source material. Shakespeare saw romance and tragedy, Lope saw comedy and even farce. There's not only a happy ending, but also surprisingly hilarious hi-jinks along the way. In other words, Romeo and Juliet as you've never seen them before.

"...The able lead actors suffer under the tonal ambiguities. As nurse Celia, Etta Devine carries many of the comic scenes with her excellent timing and sure-handed delivery. The biggest laughs come when Celia and Marin, a servant (Bruce Green), revel in low comedy, mocking the wooing process as the lead lovers wax poetic. Dean Cameron's costumes are flawless."

"...With great use of stage space and actor recycling, this production succeeds in staying as true to the original Spanish script. And yes, some of the content may be a bit gross to the modern audience, but go ahead and ignore that weird feeling in your stomach. Instead, laud the actors for their enthusiasm and energy. Imagine the location, the nonexistent background noise and the imagined hoards of people in each scene in combination with the actors and maybe, you may find yourself quickly immersed into Vega's playful world."
