The Ballad of Dena and Adrea

Highways Performance Space and Gallery
1651 18th Street Santa Monica

The Ballad of Dena & Andrea is a murder ballad song cycle that tells the true life stories of Andrea Yates and Dena Schlosser, two women who murdered their own children and ended up as roommates in the same North Texas mental health facility. Using original murder ballads in a traditional folk style, Becky Poole explores the worlds of postpartum psychosis, overzealous religion, toxic masculinity, childbearing, female rage, forgiveness and the justice system. Expect banjo, musical saw and sad stories, with a healthy balance of empathy and irreverence. The evening at Santa Monica's Highways Performance Space and Gallery begins with a performance by Abby and The Myth.
