"...It wouldn't be a valid review to simply write, "I loved it!" a hundred times and ship it off to my editor. However, if you're looking for a bottom line or a simple recommendation, that's exactly what this review will come down to."

"...Hip, Hip, Hooray! The First National Touring Company of Some Like It Hot tapped its wayinto the hearts if the opening night audience at the Hollywood Pantages Theatre. Trust me when I say this is the best musical I've seen in a very long time. Based on the classic MGM film directed by Billy Wilder, which has been named the "Funniest American Movie of All Time" by the American Film Institute, features book by Matthew López and Amber Ruffin, music by Marc Shaiman, lyrics by Scott Wittman and Marc Shaiman."

"...Not everybody things hot, but it’s hard to imagine any Broadway musical lover not being smitten by the quadruple-Tony-winning stage adaptation of the Billy Wilder movie classic Some Like It Hot now playing at the Hollywood Pantages, a song-and-dance-and-laugh-packed entertainment bonanza with an updated sensibility where race and gender are concerned."

"...My main problem with this adaptation is that the production, directed and choreographed by Casey Nicholaw, is entirely too tap-happy. When in doubt, everyone taps - even the onstage band members, who soon drop their instruments to become obsessive tap dancers."

"...Based on the 1959 MGM film of the same name, but with some crucial plot adjustments that bring out its latent possibilities, the 2022 Broadway musical "Some Like It Hot" now on tour is a thrilling production. Continuing at the Hollywood Pantages through Aug. 17, the musical explodes with high-energy song and dance by talented actors precisely directed, telling a story with enough twists and turns to keep everyone on their toes."

"...Unlike the slightly darker, and optically white dominated movie version, there is real evolution by the end of López and Ruffin's book. Although not necessarily its aim, the musical theater production of SOME LIKE IT HOT genuinely creates alternate space. The two lead men do more than put on women's clothing or mimic behaviors. While Joe (Matt Loehr) and Jerry (Tavis Kordell) initially dress up as females in order to escape Mob retribution, they don't stomp on the women. They don't dominate them. The writing here is more fluid, more empathetic. These men are comically albeit slowly becoming more aware of others and of themselves. The same goes for the other characters' exchanges."

"...Still, the true star of this Hot revamping of an already entertaining tale is Shaiman and Wittman's award-winning score and, above everything that makes this production one not to miss is Nicholaw's knockout Tony and Drama Desk-awarded choreography. It's interesting how over time the signature dance moves of artists such as Bob Fosse, Twyla Tharp, Matthew Bourne, and Alvin Ailey have become instantly recognizable and now, after years of appreciating the work of Casey Nickolaw, I'm purdy sure I could pick out his work in an Olympic dance-off."

"...Hollywood Boulevard glowed a little brighter on July 30 as the Pantages Theatre rolled out the red carpet for the Los Angeles premiere of "Some Like It Hot"-and what a debut it was. With music by Marc Shaiman, lyrics by Scott Wittman and Shaiman, and a book by Matthew López and Amber Ruffin, this Broadway powerhouse arrived with brass, sass, and a whole lot of tap."

"...I've always considered the 1959 classic Some Like It Hot starring Marilyn Monroe, Tony Curtis, and Jack Lemmon as one of the greatest comedies of all time and certainly one that was well ahead of its time, particularly for its very last scene. So to only just find out that there was a Broadway adaptation of this film AND that it won four Tony awards was a huge (and belated) surprise. Fortunately, after seeing it for the very first time at the Hollywood Pantages in this Some Like It Hot national tour, this adaptation not only maintains the spirit of the film but it expands upon it in every single delightful way."

"...SOME LIKE IT HOT is uproarious and moving and a feast for the eyes and the ears. And while the ending of the movie is classic, this goes in a different direction (while still casting a nod to the original), because this story is still relevant today, and maybe more than ever. Who you are versus who the world wants you to be versus who you're meant to be is something we all grapple with and Lopez and Ruffin bring the 1930s staunchly into the 2020s, tackling social issues with heart and soul and aplomb."
