The one-act play Simply María or The American Dream, by Casa 0101 founder Josefina López, explores the cultural and familial expectations of a young Latina woman faced with choosing to pursue her college ambitions, get married, or secure reliable employment. Maria finds herself conflicted by dual cultures -- the traditional Mexican ways of her former homeland and the progressive ways of her newly adopted home in the United States. This production, performed by youth actors, celebrates the play's 30th anniversary and can be seen at Casa 0101 Theater in Los Angeles.
