"...Granted, the characters - mouthy Jewish jokester, repressed WASP, gold-hearted hooker and feisty black tranny - are brass-plated stereotypes, but the performers, particularly the rollicking Linke, flesh them out to believable proportions - no mean feat, considering the peregrinations of Sussman's overwrought plot. "

"...Old-monied Dickie Rice (Andrew Parks) is haughty as he hurls three strikes in quick succession at an African-American hooker, sniffing, "Do you know who I am?" and referring to her "Aunt Jemima" style of speaking. Sad-clown sitcom writer Irwin Schimmel (Paul Linke) turns his poison pen on himself and his Jewish heritage, and Catorce Martinez's (Terasa Sciortino) inability to understand English subtleties is the source of many jokes. But in electing Princess Lay-Ya (a very sharp Sandra Thigpen) queen pin, Susman gives the underdog the upper hand, which Lay-Ya uses to force the superficialities aside to reveal the very real, raw pain coursing beneath. After such deep diving, the resurface at play's end is a little easy; nevertheless, the whole shebang is a much more entertaining evening than the premise portends."

"...I have seen Todd Sussman in a number of comical commercials as well as in theatre comedy, TV and film. I believe Locked and Loaded is his first attempt as a playwright. Making its West Coast debut at the Santa Monica Playhouse, It may seem an odd production, but in his "... note from the Author," in the program book, the reason behind his unusual play is clearly explained. Though it is a bizarre plot, the play offers a lot of laughs as well as an endowed cast directed by the inimitable Chris DeCarlo."
