In this one-man show that beautifully weaves together music, language and culture, Carlo shares his experiences and the experiences of so many in America. INTRINGULIS is presented as part of a bi-coastal partnership between LAByrinth Theater Company and Elephant Theatre Company.

"...To put a reasoned, compassionate face on the immigration issue, you can do no better than to take in "Intringulis," a world premiere co-production by two piping-hot theater companies, Gotham's LAByrinth and L.A.'s Elephant. Carlo Alban's autobiographical monodrama tells of an Ecuadorian boy who landed in New Jersey on a late-1980s tourist visa, and stayed on to appear as a "Sesame Street" regular through a decade's worth of struggle for resident legitimacy. It's a moving narrative, and not incidentally a splendid showcase for a breakout thesp who bears close watching."

"...The show felt like a string of monologues and songs relating to the immigrant experience rather than true storytelling. It is a very straightforward account of a childhood in America, such as the scene where he chats with a friend while smoking pot and taking shots with an air gun at cars on the highway; in this truly well-written scene, Albán is astounded that he knows much more about history than his legal school chum does. The actor magnificently recreates a slice-of-life moment, but what is this moment about' What is he trying to say' Am I to infer mere ironic intent'"

"...One of the most exciting events that are taking place in Los Angeles Theatre is the collaboration between the Labyrinth Theatre Company out of New York and the Elephant Theatre Company in Los Angeles. The exact nature of this joint endeavor is yet to be determined but the Labyrinth has sent one of it's shows, Intringulis to be performed on the Elephant's Lillian Theatre and alternating with the Elephant's production of a Labyrinth play, The Little Flower of East Orange (by one of their Artistic Directors Steven Adly Guirgis). Intringulis (loosely meaning what is hidden) is a powerful one-man show by Labyrinth member Carlo Alban. The play recounts his struggles with his and his family's immigration status. Alban is an engaging fellow and a humble entertainer."
