"...It's true that Ionesco sometimes overdoes his existential shtick and certain passages are reiterative to a fault. Fortunately, Rodriguez-Elliott's farcical romp has an undercurrent of emotional acuity that transcends mere burlesque. As for Strang and Elliott, both formidable, they throw themselves into their characters like sad clowns at a funeral, evoking equal measures of laughter and discomfort."

"...Perhaps the most intriguing aspect of this production is the myriad questions it spawns. Are Elliott and Strang's characters out of their minds? Is their world real and ours the illusion? What is this place they inhabit? Is it an asylum? Could it be a crumbling mansion disintegrating from the weight of its owner's self-inflicted delusions? Who is the Orator? The ability of the artistic team to provoke a post-performance litany of such thoughts and queries makes for a powerfully moving production of a very bizarre play."

"...Anyone who has seen any of the myriad roles performed by Elliott and Strang over the past two decades will not be surprised that A Noise Within's First (Acting) Couple create as memorable a pair of old codgers as imaginable. Elliott gets to play the Old Man not only as a suicidal geezer but as a whining toddler as well, and does both to perfection, Strang matching him in a role that has her alternately coddling her hubby/child and getting his goat as only a longtime spouse knows how to do."

"...In the midst of a capital campaign for a new theatre and producing to two ambitious plays book-ending this one, Julia Rodriguez-Elliott delivers the absurdist play in clean strokes. As the Old Woman, Deborah Strang is especially fine, always echoing– reinforcing– her husband, whom, we can clearly see would amount to nothing otherwise. Geoff Elliott's Old Man, alas, is not as well suited (one especially glaring line, "I have such difficult expressing myself" delivered in Elliott's trademark golden tones). And, of course, the Orator…but I'll leave that for new audiences to discover."
