In the uplifting comedy musical A Jew Grows in Brooklyn, author/star Jake Ehrenreich chronicles his search for the American Dream. Ehrenreich takes audiences on a musical journey through his life -- from growing up with parents who survived the Holocaust, to playing stickball in the streets of Brooklyn, to his show business career in the Catskills and on Broadway, to finding himself heartbroken at the bedsides of ailing family members -- with warmth, humor and optimism.

"...Ehrenreich is admittedly far from an A-list performer, but he's capable enough with the songs and, more important, he's an engaging and thoughtful raconteur who weaves philosophy into personal history with minimal sermonizing. His insight into the legacy of the classic Borscht Belt entertainers (whose style he effectively emulates) is elegant in its simplicity. They made Jewish comedy synonymous with American comedy, but for Holocaust survivors and their offspring their contribution was even more special and profound: "They taught us to laugh again.""

"...He's even adept at recreating some very funny Catskill comedy routines. Although the show is, at turns, sweet, interesting, and entertaining, this is an evening for the home team – the Jews who would benefit from a huge dose of nostalgia and validation. The jury is out as to how non-Jews will react to A Jew Grows in Brooklyn – I'm guessing that, for the few who will attend the show (c'mon, it's got Jew in the title!), it will be a polite shoulder shrug."
