"...The playwright turns the tables in this comedy of representation to reflect the difficulty America is still having in keeping up with society's evolution. Calderón Kellett, who co-created the "One Day at a Time" reboot with Rita Moreno, is an experienced hand in updating comic material from a Latinx - make that Latine - point of view."

"...In a landscape where minority narratives often revolve around stereotypes of poverty and struggle, One of the Good Ones emerges as a refreshing portrayal of affluent Latine experiences. Written by Gloria Calderón-Kellett, a Norman Lear protegee known for her work on the Netflix series One Day at a Time and Only Love, this play offers a comedic exploration of a wealthy Mexican/Cuban/Puerto Rican family in Pasadena, shedding light on universal themes of family dynamics, cultural clashes, and the quest for acceptance."

"...Calderon Kellett’s script is clever, funny, and pokes holes into some of the most sacrosanct beliefs and rituals held dear by Hispanic families everywhere. Besides some clear and distinct differences in philosophic thought endemic to each of the many countries that constitute Latin America, the Gomez family is also dealing with generational issues which pervade today’s South-of-the-Border kids born and raised in the U.S.A. Pre-programmed prejudices can slash as sharp as a knife – and be an intractable as its steel blade."

"...Fireworks ignite when a well-to-do Hispanic-American couple's 22-year-old daughter brings home the man of her dreams in Gloria Calderón Kellett's One Of The Good Ones, a laugh-packed, conversation-starting 21st-century Guess Who's Coming To Dinner now getting the classiest and crowd-pleasingest of World Premieres at the Pasadena Playhouse."

"...Gloria Calderón Kellett's world premiere at the Pasadena Playhouse will appeal to those who like Calderón Kellett's TV work, like One Day at a Time on Netflix and With Love on Prime. I find both shows to be fine, and One of the Good Ones to be cut from the same cloth. The jokes are often funny, and frequently land to great laughter, but the play, which is directed by Kimberly Senior, fundamentally lacks emotional depth."

"...As usual for the productions at the revered Tony Award-winning Pasadena Playhouse, I'm recommending One of the Good Ones. Even if you live elsewhere, I have a feeling that this play will be around everywhere for many years to come. (So you people around the country have time to learn some Spanish now!)"

"...A sitcom can be art, and Norman Lear was one of the form's most accomplished. One of the Good Ones playwright Gloria Calderón Kellett worked with Lear as co-creator and showrunner on the Netflix remake of his '70s-80s sitcom One Day at a Time, and she, too, is a master of the form (as well as an all-around powerhouse). To say that One of the Good Ones feels like a high-budget, 90-minute sitcom is to praise this enjoyable, engaging show."

"...A second cousin once removed to William Rose’s GUESS WHO’S COMING TO DINNER, Kellett’s genial comedy finds the highly assimilated, upper middle class Gomez family losing their collective sanity when their daughter, Yoli, brings home Marcos, a man who, to her parents’ minds at least, qualifies as an “other.” Humor, revelations, embraces and pinata destruction ensue."
