Rockin' With The Ages 3 set for the Victory Theatre

You'll notice the little 3 at the end of the title of this show. That's because there was a "Rockin' With The Ages" 1 and 2. Those were song and dance revues. Number 3 is more of a traditional book musical. Why "Ages?" Because everyone in the cast is over 60, from their sixties to their nineties. And they're rockin'.

The favorite neighborhood watering hole is a local institution called Le Club Roc. But the recession has hit the Club as hard as it has the other local businesses. People have less dough to tank up during hard times, especially the seniors who frequent the club, as they feel the pinch on their discretionary income. The greedy bank and the money-hungry local real estate developer want to foreclose on the property as part of a huge redevelopment.

But this is the hang where the old (you should excuse the expression) gang congregates. It's the landmark where friends get together. The Clubbers can't let that happen. And they won't. They have a plan. That plan involves singing and dancing and a lot of hits from the 1960s and the 1970s. You remember: back in the day when vocalists actually had to be able to sing, and musicians actually played instruments. And maybe the Club's pretty waitress can distract the banker. (They're mature, not dead.)

Pattie Brooks plays the club owner. A real-life disco queen, her hitmaking voice graced the soundtracks of hit movies including "Thank God It's Friday," "Agatha," "Doctor Detroit," "That Was Then...This Is Now" and more. She's joined onstage by the dazzling Phyllis Lovit (Miss Senior America of California 2004), Dominick Morra, Anna Pagan, Ivar Pyres, Ruben Rabasa, Bobbi Stamm, Tom Waever, Meg Wilson and Carol Woodbury.

Bill Reid directs. A member of DGA and WGA, he comes to the stage from the worlds of television and film, where 's he been a writer, director and producer. Among his many noteworthy credits: "Disney Animation: The Illusion of Life" (as producer and director), "The Disney Family Album" (as writer); the early Steven Soderbergh feature "The Underneath" (as executive producer) and much more.

Reid co-wrote the play with musical director and composer Mark Rodriguez. Rodriguez has previously worked with an array of famous artists ranging from Billy Joel to Nikki Sixx. Mark is co-founder of 52nd Street Productions.

Executive producer of all the shows in the Rockin' With The Ages series is Jackie Goldberg, also dubbed The Pink Lady, for her favorite attire. She states that her mission is to "show people that once they hit 60 life is not over, but is still filled with passion, excitement and love." No wonder she was crowned Miss Senior L.A. County in 2005.

You don't have to be old to remember when rock was young. Besides, this cast can show the young whippersnappers a thing or two.
