Tony Award winning playwright Enda Walsh will be represented once again at Rogue Machine Theatre when PENELOPE opens on June 14th at 8pm. This Los Angeles premiere is the company's second offering for the season and the second time they have presented this playwrights work (The New Electric Ballroom-2012; LA Times Critics' Choice). One of the city's most awarded theaters, Rogue Machine received honors again last season (BEST PRODUCTION award winner 2013, 2011 and 2010 - Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle, Ovation) and will now be running Rajiv Joseph's (Pulitzer finalist for Bengal Tiger in the Baghdad Zoo) GRUESOME PLAYGROUND INJURIES concurrently at their theater.

Let the games begin! With a nod to reality TV and homage paid to the Greeks, four suitors and a woman keep this snarling modern day black comedy on the verge of seduction. A journey through atonement and redemption, allegorically rich with subtext...as only Enda Walsh could write it.

Enda Walsh (Playwright) was recently honored for his musical adaptation of the film "Once" on Broadway (8 Tony, 3 Lucille Lortel, 4 Drama Desk, 3 Outer Critics Circle, and 6 Laurence Olivier Awards, as well as a Drama League Award, NY Drama Critics Circle Award, and the Grammy Award in 2013 (Best Musical Theater Album). He shot to fame when he won both the George Devine Award and the Stewart Parker Award in 1997 with his play Disco Pigs. In 2007 and 2008 he won Fringe First Awards at two consecutive Edinburgh Festivals for his plays The Walworth Farce and The New Electric Ballroom. The former led the Guardian to name him "one of the most dazzling wordsmiths of contemporary theatre." His other plays include this year's premiere of Ballyturk (at the Galway Arts Festival), Bedbound, The Ginger Ale Boy, Sucking Dublin,Misterman, The Small Things, Pondlife Angels, Chatroom, and Delirium. Walsh's 2008 biopic, Hunger, told the story of the final days of IRA hunger striker Bobby Sands. It won a host of awards, including the Camera d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival and the Heartbeat Award at the Dinard International Film Festival. It was nominated for 7 BIFAs (including Best Screenplay), 6 British Film and Television Awards (including Best Screenplay and Best Independent Film) and BAFTA's Outstanding British Film Award 2009.
