Theatre Unleashed has announced the West-Cost Premiere of THE SPIDEY PROJECT: With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility, running Thursday-Saturday, with select Sundays, from March 8-April 14 at Studio/Stage in Los Angeles.

Nerdy social outcast Peter Parker takes on an alter ego as he attempts to defeat a dastardly collection of terrifying villains and perhaps his biggest nemesis of all... himself in this clever original musical.

A Broadway parody, The Spidey Project and producer Justin Moran made waves on the East Coast when the show was developed, opened and closed before another highly publicized Spider-Man musical could get off the ground. When it was first produced, it had no budget and performed just twice. Now TU will give it a budget and a full run, keeping the piece's pioneer spirit while giving theatre goers an opportunity to see a show they only read about.

"When I was a kid, I often read Spider-Man and loved the idealism inherent within the character of Peter Parker, said David Chrzanowski, director. "But to me he was more than just an idealistic teenager trying to find his way. As an ensemble, we're going to look for moments of truth in both text and song and convey them as honestly as we can."

The show marks the second musical for the company and its first on the Main Stage, something the artistic directors considered when they added it to the season.

"It's hilarious, heart-warming, campy and just catchy as hell," said Co-Artistic Director Jacob Smith. "We knew this was a show we wanted. It's truly going to be fun for everybody."

A cameo role in the play, TU will feature a different actor to surprise each night, including some recognizable faces. The company is also collecting books for a local charity and will feature Spiderman fan art in its lobby.
