Santa Monica Playhouse announced today that REFLECTIONS IN THE MIST - a thoroughly modern myth that twists traditional forms of parable and story-telling upside down and backwards to create a necklace of contemporary tales of love, secrets, community, friendship and the wonders and woes of unopened email, will take over The Other Space at Santa Monica Playhouse for five performances only, opening Friday, August 26 at 2:00 PM and playing through August 28, 2011.

In a compelling combination of performance art, music, dance, poetry, percussion and illusion, the 8- to 14-year-old ensemble of performers take their audiences on a magical myth-tery tour, exploring the answers to such burning questions as, "What would it take to make a deal with the devil?" "Have you ever looked in the mirror and seen a stranger staring back at you?" "How can you tell when someone really loves you?" Directed by acclaimed Santa Monica Playhouse Co-Artistic Director Chris DeCarlo and Playhouse Associate Director Serena Dolinsky, with book by Playhouse Playwright-in-Residence Evelyn Rudie and music by up and coming composer Matthew Wrather, REFLECTIONS IN THE MIST features the thirteen members of Summer Stock 2011: Asher Bank, Mira Baum, Sonya Broner, Izzy D'Amico, Sam Korobkin, Anilee List, Karli Jo List, Adya Mohanty, Esther Ollivier, Alex Poe, Meghan Shah, Sarah Silvers and Dylan Ollivier, who does double duty as Public Relations Director. Special effects are designed by Nima Ghassemian.

Summer Stock at Santa Monica Playhouse is a highly intensive five-week immersion program that explores theatre as a total activity, combining performance and theatre management while emphasizing personal responsibility and commitment, ensemble work and the togetherness that comes from sharing in the creative process. Under the direction of the Playhouse's resident repertory company, members gain firsthand experience in all aspects of mounting a professional production, including ticket and advertising sales, stage and house management, costuming, set design, and public relations. The result, a play presented by young people as capable as seasoned pros, never fails to astonish. ("You won't see anything like it anywhere else." Drama-Logue) Productions originated through this workshop include the long-running (15 years) dramedy Dear Gabby-the confessions of an over-achiever, the environmental musical 2004-a telling of tomorrow, dreamward, Drempels, DOLLS!, Can'teen, NEXT!, and All Aboard the U.S.S. Friendship, all of which have toured internationally. Graduates include Gadi Dechter (journalist, The Baltimore Sun), Liz Dean (casting director, The Kids Are All Right), Rina Mimoun (producer/writer, Pushing Daisies, Gilmore Girls), Obi Ndefo (Star Trek, Stargate SG-1) and Cami Anderson (Newark Superintendent of Schools).

REFLECTIONS IN THE MIST will play for five performances only: Friday and Saturday, August 26 and 27, at 2:00 PM and 7:30 PM, with a special early bird breakfast show on Sunday, August 28 at 9:00 AM. A Continental Breakfast is included in price of admission for the August 28 performance only. Tickets are $20, with discounts for students, teachers, seniors, members of the military and groups of eight or more.
