Marisol Reviews
Stage Scene LA- Not Recommended
"...I can’t fault the talent that’s gone into bringing Open Fist Theatre’s revival of José Rivera’s Obie-winning Marisol to nightmarish life, but I found the Puerto Rican playwright’s vision of a dystopian New York City under siege almost as torturous to sit through as the unrelenting, apocalyptic horrors its titular heroine has to endure in scene after excruciating scene."
Stage Raw- Highly Recommended
"...The moon disappeared nine months ago, a man gives birth on the streets of New York City, an angel cuts off her wings before battling God, and somehow, these are not the strangest things happening in Marisol."
Larchmont Buzz- Recommended
"...If the apocalypse were to finally break out, who among us would recognize that it was truly here? Aside from the doomsday-preppers and “The End Is Near” sign-bearers, much of humanity still believes in a contract of baseline survival that ought to be valid at least until the expiration of our own lifespans. In José Rivera’s play, Marisol, however, Armageddon is rendered inevitable, poetic and dire. It begs the question: what harvest can be salvaged in a landscape so brutal?"
