Sam Steiner's LEMONS LEMONS LEMONS LEMONS LEMONS explores how we communicate in our everyday lives, and how that could be affected by censorship, oppression and loss of free speech. Bernadette and Oliver are two people that meet, fall in love and move in together, like people do. But their rapidly-progressing relationship becomes more complicated when the government introduces a draconian hush law giving everyone a daily limit of just 140 words each. They come up with ways to communicate with each other within the constraints of the law, but how can you know someone in just 140? Without words and the freedom to use them, are we completely powerless?

"...Brynn Alexander and Philip Asta ace two of the year's most uniquely demanding roles, aided and abetted by Cricket S. Myers' and Matt Richter's spectacularly detailed sound and lighting designs, in the United States Premiere of Sam Steiner's Lemons Lemons Lemons Lemons Lemons. If only Steiner's vision of a dystopian future in which speech is limited to a hundred-forty words a day didn't defy credibility and logic at every turn."

Stage Raw - Not Recommended

"...Sam Steiner's wildly eccentric two-hander follows the relationship of Bernadette (Brynn Alexander) and Oliver (Philip Asta) as they struggle to exist in an Orwellian world on steroids, where the government limits the number of words citizens can use daily. It's an engaging premise with abundant potential, yet the playwright fails to explore it with commanding artfulness or coherency.*

Capital And Main - Somewhat Recommended

"...Director Jen Bloom does a respectable job of engendering dynamic from the two characters' interaction, but it's not enough to sustain interest. Jessica J'aime's costumes enhance Bernadette's appeal as a come-hither-but-not-too-close kind of paramour. Her performance is satisfactory if a bit stilted. Asta brings a good deal more substance to the vulnerable working-class Oliver, and together they generate an appropriate chemistry."
