Inside Out at The Grove Theatre

Inside Out

The Grove Theatre
276 E. 9th Street Upland

Inside Out offers a fly-on-the-wall peek inside a late '80s women's therapy group where everyday woes are set to music. The circle is transformed forever when Dena joins the group and winds up being a catalyst for change in the lives of a flower child, a powerful businesswoman, a gay single working mom and a struggling mother of two. With insightful, memorable lyrics by Adryan Russ and Doug Haverty, Inside Out will give you an earful of what made women tick in the era of Murphy Brown, shoulder pads and Jane Fonda workouts. Burbank's Grove Theatre Center celebrates the 20th anniversary of this musical that feels every bit as timely today as it did during its off-Broadway premiere.

Broadway World - Recommended

"...Six outstanding singers/actresses under the uber skilled direction of Bruce Kimmel dispense advice and sing and move with electrifying verve. Now onstage at the Grove Theater Center in Burbank, Inside Out may very well prove to be a better tonic than a gospel revival. It’s assuredly the most effervescent all-girl group in town!"

Stage Scene LA - Recommended

"...Under Bruce Kimmel’s pizzazzy direction, Broadway and regional theater vets Sandy Bainum, Jill Marie Burke, Cynthia Ferrer, Stephanie Fredricks, Dana Meller, and Adrienne Visnic simply could not be more sensational as a sextet of modern women (of the ‘90s), nor Haverty’s book more delightfully witty and perceptive, nor Haverty and Russ’s songs more infectiously hummable, nor the women onstage at GTC any more fascinating and complex."

"...The show is a theatrical case study of a group of women in therapy; a lively musical tribute and creative interpretation of women’s search for mental health and wellness."

Observations Along the Road - Recommended

"...I’d venture to say that another reason for success was a directoral light touch. But in reality, I have no idea what the “touch” of the director, Bruce Kimmel (FB), was — and this is a good thing. I tend to believe that the sign of a good director — just like good sound and lights — is that they are transparent."
