"..."Hamilton" is a true ensemble musical, and I found myself admiring more than ever Andy Blankenbuehler's choreography, which unifies the cast and translates the drama into physical language that's as lyrical as any of the songwriting. The dancing is heart-stoppingly coordinated with Howell Binkley's lighting, and the tableaux on David Korins' nimble set of exposed brick and wooden scaffolding are etched with rousing bodily fluidity."

"...And yet, "Hamilton" remains an incredibly well-designed musical, a fact that translates beyond the stages of the Public and Richard Rodgers Theaters where it played in New York. Although the show uniquely celebrates New York (reinforcing its importance in America's early history, and reminding us Hamilton lost nothing in the Compromise of 1790 by agreeing for the capital to be located elsewhere, "Cuz we'll have the banks / We're in the same spot"), it does well on the road, reigniting interest in the country's early history wherever it travels."

"...A hip-hop Alexander Hamilton? A beat-box Father of His Country? A jumping James Madison and a jiveass Jefferson who disses bigtime in a poetry slam? The ten-dollar bill will never be the same (or the dollar note for that matter). A sassy-spunky 2015 blast from the past set to irresistible rhythms, Hamilton is a wildly successful revamp (or reclamation) by Lin-Manuel Miranda (creator of In the Heights). It feels as revolutionary as the war it covers and as bold as the new nation it celebrates."

"...Given the show's record 16 Tony nominations, 11 wins, the mountain of hype that surrounds it, record box-office grosses and the cost of tickets, expectations will continue to be off the charts. All of which makes cloning Hamilton a delicate process. There is no room for an almost-as-good road version of Aaron Burr. These guys have to crush it - and then some. It's a pleasure to report that they do. The production that opened Wednesday night at the Pantages fires like a brand new show - crisp and exciting and full of breakout performances."

"...Wednesday's show pulverized any doubts anyone in the audience might have had about "Hamilton's" unique strengths. But what's really remarkable about this show is that it succeeds not by satisfying musical theater's age-old conventions, but by defying many of them."

"...What can I say about HAMILTON that hasn't already been said one hundred times over? I was excited to attend opening night of the National Tour at the Hollywood Pantages Theatre. I haven't seen so much over.the.top yet genuine enthusiasm for a show since the original Dreamgirls with Jennifer Holliday in the 1980s. Audience screamed and cheered the entrances of every major character. At the top, I was so propelled into the setting and the action of the American Revolution in 1776 that I forgot I was watching an historical show...and that says a lot because I am not a fan of rap music. However, for those of you like me, you are in for a treat, because its heart-pounding beats drive the show with a thrilling nonstop execution like no other."

"..."Hamilton" is not your average musical - the show juxtaposes historical themes with the modern music styles of rap and hip-hop. In addition to its contemporary sound, the show also casts actors of color to transform the history of America, telling a story that feels relevant and modern despite its age-old origins."

"...Hamilton, more than ever, continues to sober and inspire as it marinates on that subject; if it alone doesn't bear the answers to what makes America, its inimitable mirror shows the faces, fictional and not, of those that do."

"...The West Coast debut of Lin-Manuel Miranda's cultural phenomenon about the founding father Alexander Hamilton, directed by Broadway steward Thomas Kail, could not have disappointed if it tried."

"...With music, book, and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda, who was inspired to write the musical after reading the biography Alexander Hamilton by Ron Chernow, Hamilton somehow not only lives up to the hype, but exceeds it. Directed by Thomas Kail, it is simply a masterpiece on every level. It is the kind of show that raises the bar for the entire art form of musical theater and the kind of show you feel lucky to be experiencing, somehow aware that because it exists, everything that comes after it will be different."

"...Even with an entirely new ensemble of actors---all giving some fresh acting and vocal interpretations to their respective (and now iconic) roles--- the inescapable power and purpose of the show remains intact, making HAMILTON, in 2022, still a must-see theatrical event that needs to be experienced in person to be truly appreciated."
