Foursome Reviews
Stage and Cinema- Not Recommended
"...You know that one friend who exhausts everyone in the room? That annoying one in your wider friend group? Now imagine four of them. You would be unsurprised to learn that they vacation together, yet relieved you don’t get invited. Alas, sometimes you get assigned to watch, so you still get dragged into their vapid lives. If that sounds fun, then head over to see Matthew Scott Montgomery’s shallow new play, Foursome, at Atwater Village Theatre."
Stage Raw- Somewhat Recommended
"...Foursome is a great on-stage romcom, but it’s missing a punctuation mark. From the start, it presents a musing on marriage and relationships. Montgomery riffs on these themes through Noah and Felix, providing them with a strong arc. But the other two characters get lost in the mix and, by play’s end, have transformed Noah and Felix’s relationship from a period into an ellipsis."
Larchmont Buzz- Highly Recommended
"...Foursome takes proper time to familiarize us with its characters and what makes them tick, and the detail in which these friendships and romances are rendered elevates this story above similar material. There is an intimacy and familiarity these skilled performers share that makes their characters’ history and relationships immediate and believable. It also helps that Montgomery’s dialogue is distinct, sharp, and not to mention very funny."
Broadway World- Recommended
"...IAMA Theatre Company and Celebration Theatre have nailed the marketing campaign for their premiere of Matthew Scott Montgomery’s Foursome at the Atwater Village Theatre. The sultry photo shoot of four conventionally-attractive queer people in various stages of undress entangled in each others’ arms has filled seats with gay couples and visibly queer people of all ages."
