IAMA Theatre Company presents the world premiere of Arrowhead by Catya McMullen, a comic tale of love, sex, identity… and fond family. Gen is unexpectedly pregnant. Gen is also a lesbian. Yeah, it’s confusing. So Gen does what any unexpectedly pregnant lesbian with a doe-eyed, (potential) arsonist of a girlfriend must: she goes and throws a secret abortion party at a lake house with her straight friends from college. "...Move over, Bluefish Cove, you've had your last summer. Now, a modern-day retreat of lesbians is here, only this one isn't by the ocean, it's by a lake. Arrowhead, actually. But this is no summer retreat. It's a gathering of two, maybe three, lesbians (what is the plural noun' a league of lesbians' a ram of dyke') at a cabin (beautifully designed by Carolyn Mraz) owned by the parents of their meddlesome straight friend Stacy (Stefanie Black), whose husband (fortunately never seen; he sounds like a schmuck) is home with the sick twins. Catya McMullen's bright, funny, well-written new play starts with Gen (Amielynn Abellera) aborting in a bathroom - having been impregnated by an ex - while her lipstick lesbian girlfriend Lily (Kathleen Littlefield in a shirt that says "Fleetwood Cat" [costumes by Danae Iris McQueen]) - is back at home ready to assemble a carpeted cat tree tower. And, well, everything starts to go downhill from there."

"...Director Jenna Worsham does a compassionate and capable job of helming ARROWHEAD and delving into the many questions which the convoluted play presents. The ensemble cast works hard to bring the emotional turmoil inherent in many of these topics to the surface. Worsham notes that "this is a play of landmines around gender and gender roles...but, above all, it's a comedy. The audience is going to laugh its way into a deeper conversation." At times, the play meanders and seems to lose focus, but the audience is always left appreciating the good intentions of the author. Perhaps so many complex matters deserve a series of plays, rather than only one which recounts material from each of the large cast."

"...Each character has a background that reflects the experiences of most of the people in the audience. The play is a journey of self discovery. A leap into the unknown. But you're not alone-the characters are your co-pilots. They may not have all the answers to your questions, but they make you laugh all the way till the end. Lindsay Coryne, specially, delivers a phenomenal performance. We hope she/him gets nominated for an award this year; it's a performance to be remembered."
