"...A TRANSPARENT MUSICAL offers a fascinating peek at gender identity issues, as well as issues related to self-esteem, honesty, and self-acceptance. Fans of the television series will find A TRANSPARENT MUSICAL entertaining and engrossing. This is a thought-provoking play about real people trying their best. As such, viewers who are intrigued by what motivates people and what influences their decisions will find this an absorbing production. Of course, musical theater aficionados will find this right up their alley."

"...Center Theatre Group celebrates diversity just in time for Pride Month with A Transparent Musical, an exhilarating but overlong adaptation of the hit TV series Transparent."

"...Though the writing may need another pass or two, A Transparent Musical offers a reminder of why queer and trans theater is so important, especially in an era of political unrest that threatens to erase it from the map. During opening weekend, members of the alphabet mafia were invited to a special Pride Night celebration where an all-LGBTQIA+ audience had the chance to scream and cheer for their community. The queer joy was palpable, as was the gratitude for this story's very existence. May this June and ever after, have our theaters fill their stages with "a loud, proud celebration of deviance.""

"...Perhaps that way, this promising fresh version of Transparent could slash at least a third of their eventually too long two-hour and 40-minute run time and maybe those smothering side stories, dealing with divorces and sex addictions and finding long-lost family members, might one day become A Transparent Musical 2. And since Faith Soloway has too many great songs to lose, the sequel could already have its own score."
