This riveting courtroom drama tells the story of a young, idealistic-and-untested lawyer, Jake Brigance, defending a black man, Carl Lee Hailey, for taking the law into his own hands following an unspeakable crime committed against his young daughter. Grisham has described his novel as “very autobiographical,” and the drama is based on a case he witnessed where a 12-year-old victim gave the most harrowing testimony he had ever heard.

"...Hudson Long as plucky street lawyer Jake Brigance and Anica Petrovic as the comely University of Mississippi law student who is by his side every step of the way are the two best reasons to catch John Grisham’s A Time To Kill at the Group Rep. Not so much its clunky direction and only so-so design."

"...The matter at hand is Group Rep’s almost stunning capacity to deliver huge ensemble productions with such skill and intelligence. They did this last year with their gorgeous production of Thornton Wilder’s American classic, Our Town. And this is in much the same tradition. I couldn’t locate a performer, or a performance, that didn’t belong. This is director Lazarus’s doing: finding the unity in tone that incorporates wry comedy (bordering on slapstick) into harrowing emotional depths."
