A Slight Ache Reviews
Showmag- Highly Recommended
"...A Slight Ache is a play written by the late Nobel prize-winning British playwright Harold Pinter. It was originally penned in 1958 and premiered as a radio play in 1959, prior to its initial stage production. The play has since had many successful theater productions. Now audiences can experience the dramatic artistry of Mr. Pinter in a sterling production at Los Angeles’s Odyssey Theatre through October 1."

"...Director Jack Heller adeptly captures the pauses and lulling rhythm of Pinter's work, creating a trancelike atmosphere punctuated by sparse moments of ruin and ironic laughter - the exuberance of killing a wasp, for example, or the violent clatter of a tray on the floor."

"...In addition to the excellent acting and directing, the scenic design (Jeff G. Rack) and costumes (Michael Mullen) combine in great detail the past and the present. Flora and Edward sport a refined look in their privileged 50s home setting while the match seller wears clothes that remind us of the very familiar sight in our streets nowadays. A clever commentary on classes back in Pinter’s England and a contrast that persists in our America today."

"...Pinter’s one-act play tetters on comedy but is defined by the menacing threat of an outsider – in this case, the disheveled match seller, a mysterious “other” who comes to represent Flora’s and Edward’s every fear and fantasy. The rather stereotypical relationship between the two long-married people is disrupted by the entrance of this stranger who never speaks. Both Edward and Flora project on this stranger what they imagine they missed or may have experienced in their lives in the past."
