"...Skillfully directed by Larry Eisenberg, A JUKEBOX FOR THE ALGONIQUIN shines. This well written hilarious tale of canny, clever seniors is also charming, touching, and just might bring tears to your eyes. Playwright Stroili has pinpointed the sweet spot between humor and depth and manages to bring these often forgotten seniors to vivid life. The talented cast “gets it” and rounds out the folks at Placid Pines with compassion, hilarity, and pure fun. From grins to chuckles to outright guffaws, audiences will love these seniors, who are definitely not over the hill."

"...Theatre Forty hits another home run with a sure-fire dramady set in a senior living facility whose residents have nicknamed their common room "The Algonquin" for reasons that become clear in the play. Written by prolific playwright Paul Stroili, it is as well researched as it is written. And Theatre Forty's wonderfully deep bench of veteran actors bring their talents to the comedy as well as the pathos, making for an engrossing theatre experience."

"...With its wacky characters and hilarious jokes, A Jukebox for the Algonquin is often laugh-out-loud funny. Although the second act veers into melodrama, with a tear-jerking twist that feels heavy-handed, the cast approaches their characters with so much heart that their performances remain grounded and believable throughout. In particular, Lloyd Pedersen as poetry-loving and wise-cracking Dennis is in turns heartbreakingly vulnerable and raucously funny - with a beautiful vocal duet with Van Helsdingen as the cherry on top. Tricia Cruz as facility director Josaphina also delivers a memorable monologue about the behind-the-scenes emotional toll of caring for seniors. But even greater than any one performance is the sense of chemistry and camaraderie between characters."
