The Red Shoes at Ahmanson Theatre

The Red Shoes

Ahmanson Theatre
135 North Grand Ave Los Angeles

A tale of passion and obsession, Matthew Bourne's stylish and audacious new ballet The Red Shoes was exalted as "a feast for the eyes" by The Guardian, while The Daily Telegraph praised its magical qualities, declaring it "blissful." Bourne's thrilling adaptation of the Oscar-winning 1948 film (which was itself based on a tale by Hans Christian Andersen) is the story of a ballerina forced to choose between an affair of the heart and her rapturous love of dance. Featuring music written by composer Bernard Hermann for Citizen Kane and three other classic films, you won't want to miss The Red Shoes when it enjoys its American premiere at the Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles.

Ticket Holders LA - Highly Recommended

"...On opening night, the lead character of Victoria Price, a young dancer obsessed by a pair of red toe shoes, and her own personal Diaghilev, impresario Boris Lermontov, were gorgeously danced by Ashley Shaw and Sam Archer, while her romantic pas de deux with Dominic North proved show-stopping every time. Still, it was Liam Mower, who won the Olivier Award as the title character in the original production of Billy Elliott the Musical in London, who left the most indelible impression as the Ballet Lermontov's leading dancer Ivan Boleslawsky."
