"...The unspoken challenge in Ronald Harwood's superb play "Taking Sides," about the historical Wilhelm Furtwängler and his relation with the Nazi regime (he was conductor of the Berlin Philharmonic throughout World War II), is that the audience has to decide if he was guilty of collaboration with Adolf Hitler and his government or if he acted to preserve German music in a parlous time."
