The nineteenth century ironsides of the title has been fitted with anti-gravitation gear and lasers set to kill! It takes to the air in a brand-new version that is guaranteed to blast you out of earth's atmosphere and send you to a solar system filled with laughter and delight. The trivial antics of G&S's veddy British lords and ladies seem far less trivial when they're fighting for their lives against alien lizard men! (okay... possibly slightly more trivial, but twice the fun!)

"...Delivering the goods with confident glee, this excellent ensemble deserves better. In fact, this would be a sinking ship were it not for the ensemble's charisma and the first rank performances and voices of some key players, including James Jaeger's physically nimble, sonorously voiced Dick Deadeye - imagine French Stewart as a lizard man. Jesse Merlin's Captain Corcoran is also magnificent, the embodiment of swagger, with facial muscles locked into a smirk and a voice that that just keeps going. Ashley Cuellar's musical chops are similarly apparent as the Captain's daughter, Josephine. Her stage presence is perfectly adequate, but her voice hits the moon."

"...Previously, I have called the Crown City Theatre Company the last bastion of good community theatre left in L.A. Nothing in Pinafore changes that opinion. The production shows heart, enthusiasm and dedication with talent enough to carry it through but nothing that could ever be confused with Broadway. While some, more "professional" productions can be more refined, yet off-putting to the audience, here the acting is merely okay (with the notable exceptions of Jaeger who steals the show as the lizard-like Deadeye and Paton Ashbrook as the Vulcan communications officer), yet delivered in a friendly "wink-and-nod" style that is somehow endearing. With few exceptions (notably Merlin and Cueller), the voices are nothing more than passable. On the whole, the production is highly entertaining with the added charm of that community theatre feel."

"...Considering the legion of Star Trek fans out there from here to deep space, it's no wonder that USS Pinafore is selling out performance after performance. Non-Trekkies need fear not, however. In the same way that you didn't have to be gay to love Crown City's recent smash hit Big Gay North Hollywood Wedding, USS Pinafore is likely to please audience members as outside its niche as this reviewer. Whether Trekkie, Gilbert & Sullivan fanatic, or neither of the above, you're likely to have a galactically good time at USS Pinafore. "

"...An outer space operetta, adapted from the works of Gilbert & Sullivan… on this voyage, we're on a "Star Trek"-like spaceship, instead of the original ocean liner. (Very "cool" and complex set by Tony Potter.) Brilliantly adapted by Jon Mullich, who also directs the farce with hilariously "laser sharp" vision, and musically directed with zany flair by William A. Reilly, this is a spectacular production! I smiled so much.. my cheeks hurt!"
