La Cage Aux Folles

Pantages Theatre
6233 Hollywood Blvd. Hollywood

Winner of three Tony Awards® including the award for BEST MUSICAL REVIVAL, this hilarious new production of LA CAGE AUX FOLLES was the biggest hit of the 2010 Broadway season, leaving audiences in stitches night after night! LA CAGE AUX FOLLES tells the story of Georges, the owner of a glitzy nightclub in lovely Saint-Tropez, and his partner Albin, who moonlights as the glamorous chanteuse Zaza. When Georges’ son brings his fiancée’s conservative parents home to meet the flashy pair, the bonds of family are put to the test as the feather boas fly! LA CAGE AUX FOLLES is a tuneful and touching tale of one family’s struggle to stay together ... stay fabulous ... and above all else, stay true to themselves! With a glorious score of hummable melodies and a dynamite cast featuring the “notorious and dangerous Cagelles,” LA CAGE AUX FOLLES is an indisputable musical comedy classic...and this extraordinary new version shows you why! Los Angeles Times - Recommended

"...Equally undeniable is that Herman’s inspiration pales in Act 2, Hamilton’s musical theater abilities are sorely limited, and the Pantages is three sizes too big a venue. Given the rapturous reception at the reviewed performance, such caveats are immaterial. Die-hard fans, reserve immediately."

"...Simple math explains why the touring revival of Jerry Herman and Harvey Fierstein’s 1983 musical doesn’t work."

Backstage - Somewhat Recommended

"...Now that it has hit the road, many more of the show’s fans will have access to the winning combination of George Hamilton, as Georges, and Broadway vet Christopher Sieber, as Albin. The men generate a mild charge, making them more akin to a comfortable married couple than to one still in the heat of smoldering passion. Part of this may be Terry Johnson’s even-handed direction, but a good deal of the explanation must lie with the cavernous Pantages Theatre, which swallows up all but the most overt emoting."

Broadway World - Recommended

"...Outrageous in design and color, choreography verging on the acrobatic, spectacle, great singing, offbeat, risque humor and miles of heart are certainly enough attributes to call La Cage Aux Folles top-notch."

Edge - Somewhat Recommended

"...The reported splendor of the Broadway version of this Tony-winning revival seems tarnished in this road edition, which suffers from one miscast star, an uneven cast, and general signs of being ragged around the edges."

"...I saw this version of the show when it was on Broadway. The current touring version pales in comparison, mainly because Mr. Hamilton is just too, dare I say, old for the part of Georges. He has had extensive facial work and is limited to only a few expressions. Mainly open eyes and a wide mouth. He lacks the energy to carry it off, though he did improve as the show progressed."

"...Whether they are comically dancing and kicking oversized beach balls into the audience or executing an intricate pole dance draped over the sides of a colossal bird cage, they are a marvel only outdone by Christopher Sieber’s performance as Albin."
