"...Michael John Garces' play "The Web" aims to be a paranoid thriller, but unfortunately lacks suspense and intelligent characterization. The world premiere by NeedTheater is a protracted muddle that also suffers from lax direction and generally uninspired performances, although to be fair neither the cast nor the director has much to work with in this script."

"...Nothing is what it seems, and contradictions breed like rabbits. For a while it seems Garcės is simply indulging in obfuscation for its own sake, but eventually things start to add up. Director Alyson Roux has assembled a top-notch, energetic cast, and deploys them with speed and precision. All tech credits are excellent."

"...The Web could also have fallen apart without precisely the right leading man. Fortunately, Ian Forester fits the It-Could-Be-Me lead role to a T. He's just the kind of guy who might be working unobtrusively in the cubicle-next-door, a buddy you might meet after work for drinks, not at all the kind of man you'd expect to be running for his life from a team of deadly killers. Absolutely natural and completely in-the-moment, Forester makes us believe that this is happening to him, and to us, and besides the very real confusion-turned-fear-turned-terror he (and we) experience, the young actor also undergoes the most physically demanding role I've seen in many a moon. The fights designed by Edgar Landa are so real, the punches and kicks so absolutely authentic (and painful to imagine) that it's a wonder Forester and his fellow combatants can survive from performance to performance."

If it was a simple morality tale, what could it possibly say' Identity theft is wrong' So what' Instead, Michael John Garcés' play questions identity itself. It questions whether in fact there is anything so fixed and immutable as personal identity. Was Chris's identity stolen, was he confused with someone else, or did he actually become someone else' It is not a matter of finding the right answer but of asking the right questions. And The Web certainly does that. If personal identity is so fluid, elusive, and illusory, can there be a firm, unchanging truth of identity' And is truth itself subjective, relative, and ultimately out of reach'"
