"...The cast bears the responsibility of keeping this lightweight play, which is as seductively slight as Reza's more recent "God of Carnage," from floating off into the ether. The Pasadena Playhouse's revival, which opened Sunday under the guidance of veteran stage and TV director David Lee, has assembled a fairly solid one. The production won't have you reassessing the work's depth, but it will do its lively best to keep your spirits raised."

"...If you were to order an eighty-dollar entrée at a three-star Michelin restaurant, only to discover that it was under-salted, then you would have a sense of the disappointment that characterizes this star-studded but ultimately unsatisfying production of Yasmina Reza's award-winning play."

"...David Lee's screamingly funny revival, which is graced with the consummate talents and sterling chemistry of actors Roger Bart, Michael O'Keefe, and Bradley Whitford."

"...Even for those who may not have enjoyed Reza's more recent, and more prickly God of Carnage, there is much to appreciate in the pathos, humor, and torrents of clever words and speeches that make up the modern classic, Art."

"...The Pasadena Playhouse now provides proof positive just how much more Art can be when those three actors are 1) an Emmy winner, 2) an Oscar nominee, and 3) a Tony winner. Add to the mix one of our finest directors and some of the most gifted designers in this or any city, and you come up with a production that makes Art feel brand new, even for those who may have seen it on previous occasions."

"...A strong cast of three men, Roger Bart (Yvan), Michael O'Keefe (Serge), and Bradley Whitford (Marc), bring the characters of Yasmina Reza's play Art to life at the Pasadena Playhouse. Translated by Christopher Hampton, it is directed by David Lee."

"...A hilarious, yet deeply moving and cerebral look at a trio of long-term male friendships, and the simmering insecurities that bubble underneath the surface … this is a wonderful play!"

"...Yasmina Reza's 1998 hit comedy, Art, now at the Pasadena Playhouse under the direction of David Lee, remains a hostile, brutally funny play that will remind too many audience members of some of their own relationships."

"...The way these three stake out their territory on the stage, using their posture as much as their words to assert the rightness of their opinions, offers a riveting interpretation of the male quest for respect."

"...Playwright Yasmina Reza's (who also wrote the 2009 Tony Award-winning "God of Carnage") fast and witty repartee flows with ease from the mouths of the talented trio on stage - Roger Bart as the "spineless amoeba" best friend Yvan; Michael O'Keefe as Serge, the initiator of the drama; and Bradley Whitford as Marc, the antagonist of the ensuing debate."

"...In short, "Art" does what Reza had become known for: strip the social veneer from supposedly civilized society to show its underlying animosity. Still, in this version there is a genuine friendship, however strained, to balance the ferocity, and considerable humor."
