"...The story of two high school students wrestling with a report on Walt Whitman evokes an Afterschool Special, duly ticking off the markers of teen angst, then abruptly opens out into a stunning exploration of cosmic interconnectedness."

"...Those delicate, rich moments are why I had to fight a visceral distaste for the play's unearned ending, which undermines the story and its characters' bravery in the face of an uncertain future. It feels, at minimum, like artistic overreach or a sentimental ploy."

"...It takes a bit of doing before Anthony charms his way into Jennifer's confidence. The dialogue may be slightly overdone, but it's one of those two handers where all we have to go on is the repartee, the ebb and flow of the two characters relating to each other. As the teens begin to enjoy the assignment and one another, it's clear that Anthony has brought much more than the opportunity for Jennifer to begin to enjoy poetry and help him complete his assignment. Buderwitz's skill and the revelation of Anthony's gift work brilliantly."

"...The MBAs who pass as creative forces in the film industry earn their millions (or lose them) by following formulas and, with occasional exceptions, essentially making the same films over and over again. It seems to work – they drive more expensive cars than I do! – but it's so much more interesting to walk into a theatre and be surprised, startled even, by a work of imagination which confounds your expectations and challenges you throughout. Lauren Gunderson's I and You, at the Fountain Theatre, surprised me so often, and so well, that it set a new world record."
