"...Go see A Nice Family Gathering! You won't see or learn anything new, but you will laugh and enjoy the fine work at hand. Bravo to the company for getting this play mounted quickly in lieu of the previously announced production."

"...After all of that information, it is needless to say that Phil Olson's play, A Nice Family Gathering, playing now at the Lonny Chapman Theatre in North Hollywood fits that definition to a T. However, A Nice Family Gathering is somewhat different from other plays of his that I have seen because, like all of the others, it is very comical, but different because the idea that plays out with so much humor, is also wistful and can bring tears to your eyes."

"...Director Doug Engalla pulls strong performances from his cast, who bring realistic give-and-take to the proceedings, enhanced by spot-on timing. Rudolph McCollum's Carl is the understated, centering presence of the roller coaster family around him. Robert McCollum brings dynamic flair to father Carl, full of sarcastic attitude. Glen Philip snaps and sparks as the prickly and emotional Michael."

"...Written by Phil Olson, who brings to life the "every family" with laugh out loud humor and "tear in the eye" poignant and tender moments. Phil has written the hysterical "Don't Hug Me" series of plays, which are some of my favorites, and A NICE FAMILY GATHERING is now added to the list. Doug Engalla brings his superb directing talents to this delightful production, and is a longtime collaborator with Playwright Phil Olson."
