Collaborative Artists Ensemble is proud to present the West Coast Premiere of Unraveled. Joy is a professor of physics and philosophy, who has spent her life exploring theories of space and time. None of that has prepared her for the reality of watching cancer unravel her motherís mind and body. As the hard work of care-taking begins to take its toll, she hires Anna, a hospice nurse, to help her mother. But when the rules of space and time no longer provide Joy the answers she needs, can Anna's simple lessons of how to care for another person help Joy knit the pieces of her life together again?

On Stage Los Angeles - Recommended

"...Jennifer Blackmer's "Unraveled" brings reflections of sad stories that almost every person we know may face at one time or another. Time marches on. In fact, what may be the "illusion" of time emerges as the theme of the play. Joy (Meg Wallace) is a professor of Physics and Philosophy, an interesting mix that fuels the progress of the story. Her opening speech turns on the idea that not unlike Billy Pilgrim in Vonnegut's "Slaughter House Five" we may slide back and forth in time, which she actually does, encountering her mother at different episodes in their lives together."

Stage Raw - Somewhat Recommended

"...There is no shortage of plays and movies that tackle the subject of a sick and/or aging parent or parents who fall into the care of their adult children. Unfortunately, itís a situation that is too common nowadays. In Unraveled, Jennifer Blackmer mines this all too familiar ground with an imperfect story about the disintegrating relationship between a mother and daughter brought on by illness."
