The Secrets of My Skincare Routine at Highways Performance Space and Gallery

The Secrets of My Skincare Routine is an immersive and multidisciplinary performance piece utilizing movement, projection, poetry and body remodeling with clay. Exploring the mind-body connection from a feminine perspective, the work specifically focuses on external and internal stimuli and the micro/macro awareness of the body. The performance has been devised within the collective for the past year, during which the artists held experimental workshops and discussions that explored themes of obsession, distortion and perception, disconnect, illusion and control. Beginning with a loose prompt, the team allowed the performance to come together without a structure or leader, trusting the collaborative process to result in a finished cohesive product. The Bastette Group is an inclusive and ever changing group of female artists, designers, directors, producers, cinematographers, choreographers and, most importantly, collaborators. The collective was started in 2017 and their first collaboration was a 10-part experimental music video series, Rigor Samsa, which is available to view online. Their sophomore project was a five continuous performance piece, A Body. Again that premiered in March, 2018. The Bastette Group was founded by Megan Spatz, with the goal to provide opportunity for creative women to explore themes, topics, techniques of their craft that could be focused around a shared creative goal.
