The End of Sex

Victory Theatre Center
3326 West Victory Blvd. Burbank

Using cutting humor and venturing into tricky territory, The End of Sex wrestles with how sexual behavior encourages power arrangements even in consensual relations. What happens when one woman questions her own collusion with these arrangements? In this world premiere drama, it's Nancy's birthday. When her daughter and son-in-law come to take the parents out to celebrate, everything slides into decidedly tricky territory. Enjoy this show at Burbank’s Victory Theatre Center. Los Angeles Times - Recommended

"...Don’t be misled. After that self-consciously naughty first scene, Walch’s play builds into a nuanced comedy-drama about the battle between the sexes, with an emphasis on the inequitable expectations placed on women within heteronormative marriages. And if the play occasionally turns a bit twee, it nonetheless taps into a rich source of female ire."

Stage Scene LA - Somewhat Recommended

"...With issues as provocative as those raised in The End Of Sex (Or What’s Wrong With Mom), audiences can expect to find themselves exchanging ideas long after the lights go out. As a finished work of theater, however, the Victory’s latest still has a ways to go."

The Tolucan Times - Highly Recommended

"...As always at this theatre, the technical efforts are all EXCELLENT! The set design by Evan Bartoletti is as realistic and mood setting as could possibly be, and the wardrobe choices by Lauri Fitzsimmons are also MOST APPEALING. I've been writing about their offerings here for many years and find their choices of material to produce and quality of performances to be consistently commendable. I don't think I've missed any of their productions in decades."

Stage Raw - Somewhat Recommended

"...Director Maria Gobetti gets strong work from her ensemble but can’t quite get past an imbalanced script. For a play of ideas, the writing doesn’t disappoint; the topics Walch brings up are provocative and interesting and easy to relate to. One example is challenging the notion that a married couple must have sexual relations throughout their entire lives together, expressed in Nancy’s plaint: “I’ve been a good sport for thirty-plus years. Don’t I deserve a retirement?”"
