Silence! The Musical Reviews

"...OMG!! Raunchy, Irreverent, full of belly-laughs, snorts, insane giggling and possibly peeing your pants, this Musical stars Jesse Merlin and Amanda Conlon as Hannibal Lecter and Clarice Starling in SILENCE! THE MUSICAL, a satirized tribute, fully choreographed and revisited, to the iconic movie "The Silence of the Lambs." with Music & Lyrics by Jon Kaplan & Al Kaplan, Book by Hunter Bell, originally done Off-Broadway, this newest version compares to The Book of Mormon, in references, "inside" jokes, campy impersonations and an array of talented performers milking it for all it's worth."

"...I didn't know what to expect when I made plans to see Bucket List Theatre's production of Silence! The Musical, a parody of the multiple Oscar-winning film The Silence of the Lambs, now at the Actors Company in Hollywood. Would it be gross-out humor, a too-long skit in the manner of SNL, or a "serious" work (by which I mean, a show with the form and structure to support 90 minutes of dialogue and songs). Happily, it is the latter. Things get agreeably silly, disgusting, pun-filled, and bawdy, but there is definitely enough narrative momentum in Hunter Bell's book to hold our interest while the jokes and songs fly by."

"...The cast is superb. Merlin's Dr. Lecter is electrifying. Conlon is perfect as a bright, but slightly goofy Clarice. (Conlon also directed and choreographed this craziness.) Nick Dothee bridges the chasm between evil torturer and misunderstood young man. Brian Dyer as Crawford, and Kevin Michael Moran as the narcissistic Dr. Chilton are perfectly cast. And the lambs, many of whom have dual roles, connect the story with individuality and energy."

"...This is such a brilliant show. Funny, smart, inventive and full of wonderful songs and so many opportunities for brilliance from the performers. I absolutely loved it!!"

"...For those that hasn't seen the feature in a while (if at all), then this musical will make up for miss. It's a fun show to see, and just in time for All Hallow's Eve season, too! SILENCE! THE MUSICAL is the trick to treat!"

"...Conlon also serves as the show's director, choreographer and production designer and may have stretched herself a bit too thin. The direction is snappy and the 90-minute no intermission show shuffles along at a nice pace. The choreography, especially the balletic pas de deux for Lecter's plaintive ballad "If I Could Smell Her C*nt," is well executed. The production design is spare but gets the job done on the small stage. Conlon's performance could use a bit more bite however. Edgar Cardoso serves as musical director and keyboard artist and does just fine. The ensemble plays a variety of roles but especially delight as the chorus of lambs. Leave your church lady relatives at home; they wouldn't get the humor in the outrageously vulgar and oh-so-much fun lyrics and the general balls-to-the-walls playing of this uncouth parody."

"...Frankly, I think we could all use some relief from the assault of reality bombarding us every day from CNN, MSNBC and the BBC, and Silence! The Musical is a perfect prescription for some soul salving ludicrousness."
