CHiPS the Musical at Falcon Theatre

CHiPS the Musical

Falcon Theatre
4252 Riverside Drive Burbank

Take a journey down the 405 Freeway circa the 1970s when highways were hopping and surface streets were for sissies - when you could get from Downtown to the Westside in 20 minutes, and not just in a Toyota. There you'll find those super-flashy stewards of safety and suave-ness, Ponch and John, in CHiPS the Musical. Rest assured, Ponch and John are still wearing their well-starched uniforms, packin’ the heat, and looking fine enough to cause a fender-bender while battling criminals of the worst kind: female eco-terrorists sporting roller skates and short shorts! The boys on bikes are back…and this time, they're singing!

Presented by Troubadour Theater Company

Thru - Jul 25, 2010

Price: $26-$46

Los Angeles Times - Highly Recommended

"...When it comes to sustained silliness, the Troubadour Theater Company sets the industry standard. “CHiPS the Musical,” a world premiere at the Falcon, is a full-on laugh riot that equals or tops any other Troubie show that comes to mind -- and considering this company’s track record, that’s saying something."

LA Weekly - Recommended

"...The 14 loony production numbers (under Eric Heinly's musical direction), neatly skewer the original series' generic, funk-flavored, adult-contemporary score along with its absurdly insipid storylines — talk about shooting fish in a barrel! — and even produce the occasional gem, like Caroline Gross' hilarious, must-be-seen, aerial-birthing flashback dance."

Backstage - Highly Recommended

"...McCrary's rendition of "Missed Opportunity" and Walker's detailing of his wife's postpartum death in "Seven Mary Three"—including the onstage birth of triplets through the jaw-dropping Cirque du Soleil style acrobatics of cast member Caroline Gross—are near showstoppers."

Stage Scene LA - Highly Recommended

"...If ever there was a review-proof performing ensemble, it’s the Troubadour Theater Company, whose frequent Falcon runs sell out time after time.  That is, they would be review proof if the Troubies didn’t invariably get raves from even the toughest critics.  If you haven’t yet discovered them, CHiPs The Musical provides a perfect introduction. It’s quite possibly the Troubies’ best show to date.  "

The Tolucan Times - Highly Recommended

"...A madcap mélange of mayhem, mirth, and music, CHiPs The Musical continues the Troubadour Theater Company’s long run of hit shows. Hilariously combining pop culture references, singing, and smartly choreographed dance numbers into expanded sketch comedy, CHiPS The Musical is an unqualified success."

"...the ad-libbing tipped over into self-indulgence, on several occasions, to the point where cast members were telling each other to stick to the script. I swear the show ran a good fifteen minutes longer than it should have; towards the end of the show one of the actors even ad-libbed that he was “already home this time last night.” Still, it was all funny stuff! Don’t miss this riotous show!"
