Colleen manages an open-admissions, government-funded animal shelter. This means her shelter accepts all animals. When animals prove unadoptable because of advanced age, illness, injury, or aggressiveness, they may be subject to euthanasia. Overcrowding at the shelter may also put animals in line for euthanasia. Colleen is a compassionate animal lover whose duties put her at odds with her instincts.

"...Competent director Shaina Rosenthal does a good job of showing the nexus between compassion, pragmatism, and everyone's search for love. The talented cast sometimes become lost in the tale of conflict, stress, and no good answers. Playwright Ashley Rose Wellman carefully builds suspense as the environment threatens to overwhelm Colleen and her daughter. Colin Lawrence's scenic design brings the chaos of overcrowding to the audience, while Hayden Kirschbaum's lighting and Matt Richter's sound add to the feeling of claustrophobia."

"...Wellman's shelter setting is analogous to an abortion clinic, complete with death threats and employee doxing, epitomizing the danger many who work in those fields face in providing such vital yet still misunderstood services. But the play is not all doom and gloom, as Wellman displays a playful wit in the face of her characters' dire circumstances and contradictions. Marina's Colleen and Madriaga's Ellie have an authentic familial interaction that is both humorous and dramatic and that, despite the ambiguity of their connection at the finale, still offers a glimmer of hope."

"...The play is multi-faceted and touches on the complications of human nature, which comprises many traits like good and evil, selfishness, and altruism. The play is funny, sad, tragic, and complicated. It brings forth information on Kill Shelters that I had never thought about before. The Red cast of actors is top-notch, especially Ashely Romans who brought a very private humanity to the table.
