  Invisible Tango at Geffen Playhouse

Invisible Tango

Geffen Playhouse
10886 Le Conte Avenue Los Angeles

Magic sensation Helder Guimar„es returns to the Geffen with the world premiere of his one-man show, Invisible Tango. Directed by legendary film producer and director Frank Marshall (Jurassic World, Indiana Jones, Goonies, Back to the Future), Invisible Tango explores the nature of secrets and how far we are willing to go to discover them. In the midst of the information age and our culture of over-sharing, Guimaraes challenges our interaction with the unknown and explores how we can embrace the magic of wonder and mystery.

Los Angeles Times - Highly Recommended

"..."Invisible Tango," directed with genial polish by Hollywood film producer Frank Marshall, might please a theater sensibility such as mine more if the balance between anecdotes and old-fashioned magic tricks were adjusted slightly in favor of narrative. But Guimar„es makes good on his show's title by fostering a communion with his partner, the audience, who by the end accepts the notion that treasuring mysteries may be even more important than cracking them."

"...Amid the amazement, tales are told about friends and family members as well as a car accident occurring on a narrow road in an unnamed country which, in turn, led to a magnificent but never expected outcome. That type of mysterious circumstance prevails during his 80-minute INVISIBLE TANGO solo performance, directed by Frank Marshall, one of the premiere film directors in the entertainment industry, with original music by Moby providing the perfect mysterious atmosphere to enhance the wonder filling the room."

"...I take serious issue with critics who have tried to reduce Invisible Tango to a very good magic show, and who are embarrassingly amiss when they claim that Guimar„es never completes his thread about things happening for a reason. Invisible Tango has all the subtlety and beauty of a novella by that Argentinian word-magician, Jorge Luis Borges. As with Borges's best stories - and unlike almost every other magic show I have seen - this theater event will stay with me for a very long time. My congratulations to Guimar„es and to those who have collaborated with him to create this lovely and entertaining meditation on the enigma of human existence."
