I'm Not A Comedian...I'm Lenny Bruce Reviews

"...Marmo brilliantly leads the audience through the many ups and downs of Bruce's hard life, born to a British father and Long Island Jewish mother, whose neuroses led to much of Bruce's off-color humor. Each short bit stands in its own right, with Marmo masterfully commanding the stage with his powerful character representation, including Bruce's descent into hard drugs - a scene that was truly difficult to watch in its realistic depiction."

"...Ronnie Marmo brings the ground-breaking standup comic legend Lenny Bruce back to scabrously funny, heartbreakingly poignant life in I Am Not A Comedian ... I'm Lenny Bruce, the latest from Theatre 68."

"...Directed with GRITTY FOCUS by actor Joe Mantegna (TV's Criminal Minds), the delicate balance between actor and director is strongly felt here. Not usually a big fan of "one-actor" productions, but now and then one comes along that I feel puts the audience in a focused and appreciative trance throughout. This is one of those magical times!"

"...Co-writers Ronnie Marmo and Jason M. Burns have created an inventive portrait of comedian Lenny Bruce. The show underscores the arc of a brilliant career that was cut short at the age of 40 due to an accidental drug overdose. Infused with a sampling of the comedian's off-the-cuff, riff-like performance style, Marmo (who also stars) ably inhabits Bruce's persona. Director Joe Mantengna establishes a seamless flow of story and comedic performance, utilizing Theatre 68's stage area to optimum effect. Texturing the proceedings are the lighting, production, and sound designs of Matthew Richter."
