Honky Tonk Laundry at Hudson Theatre

Honky Tonk Laundry

Hudson Theatre
6539 Santa Monica Blvd. Hollywood

Lana May Hopkins is the owner and proprietress of the Wishy Washy Washateria, a local laundromat. She's also five years into a bad marriage to a lying, cheating son of a gun. When she hires Katie Lane Murphy to help her pick up the slack around the laundromat, the two women bond and soon discover that they've both got problem men in their life. Before long, these two country angels join forces to exact revenge on the men that did them wrong -- all while turning their laundromat into a boot-scootin' honky tonk. Set to a soundtrack of country hits by the likes of Reba McEntire, Dolly Parton, Carrie Underwood, the Dixie Chicks and more, Honky Tonk Laundry is coming to the Hudston Manstage Theatre in Hollywood.

Los Angeles Times - Recommended

"...Still, the dynamic duo of Malone and Cotton manage to haul this show into the ranks of Bean crowd-pleasers. "Laundry" may be a wash sometimes, but its two talents nail down their laughs, hit their high notes and yank a few tears along the way."

"...One thing is clear: If Bets Malone and Misty Cotton ever choose to sell themselves as an actual country music recording duo, they will be a smash. The intensity and quality of the singing is wonderful. Their blend is perfect, haunting and smooth, most notably on “Heaven, Heartache, and the Power of Love,” and “Long Time Gone.” Even when one goes the teensiest bit flat, the other balances it out by going the teensiest bit sharp, creating a sound that to my ears could take Nashville by storm.:

LA Splash - Highly Recommended

"...The plot is simple and mainly a way to let Bets Malone and Misty Cotton, both uber-talented vocalists, get the ball rolling. Don't expect clever plot twists or profound character development from HONKY TONK LAUNDRY. But do expect to be entertained every moment. You're really going to enjoy this, especially if you're an inveterate country/western fan. Get ready to tap your toes and clap those hands."

Stage Scene LA - Highly Recommended

"...SoCal musical theater stars Bets Malone and Misty Cotton bring their considerable comedic gifts and some of the best pipes in town to Honky Tonk Laundry, the latest jukebox-musical treat from Roger Bean, the Marvelous Wonderettes creator in down-home country music mode this time round."

"...But, for true melodic bliss, nothing surpasses Malone's nearly heartbreaking rendition of real-life singer Terri Clark's "Smile." Among the full-throated belting and comic zaniness, this quiet, reflective moment, featuring the unparalleled talents of lighting designer Steven Young, is worth its weight in gold. Oh, and lest you think Danny, Earl, and even Jerry, the town's oft-referred-to and only Uber driver, get off scot-free, rest assured they're in attendance at the Act 2 concert, whether they realize it or not."

Musicals In LA - Recommended

"...In any case, Honky Tonk Laundry is an appealing production featuring two stars of the Southern California musical theatre scene at their best. So grab your boots and head on down to Hollywood for an empowering girls' night out at the theatre, country style. Hubs can get his own beer 'cause you're done doin' laundry tonight."

Stage Raw - Highly Recommended

"...Bean’s direction is brisk and efficient, and Robert Marra’s choreography captures the honky- tonk spirit. Tom Buderwitz’s set, with its rows of washers and dryers, is so richly detailed you can almost smell the laundry detergent. And Renatta Lloyd’s costumes are both colorful and apt for the characters."

Haines His Way - Recommended

"...Roger Bean's direction and Steven Young's fabulous lighting design are very presentational in style, nearly every song seemingly done in concert performance mode. The second act is actually a concert the duo performs for an audience at the Washateria, fulfilling Lana Mae's long held dream of a singing career in Nashville. At times you wish the winning twosome just did a flat out concert instead of bothering with the at times tiresome cliches of the bare bones plot."

Ticket Holders LA - Somewhat Recommended

"...Now, there's no doubt that Malone and Cotton are two of the most impressive musical theatre veterans gracing us with their considerable gifts on the west coast and both knock the songs they're given right out onto the street in front of Lana Mae's Wishy Washy Washateria, but I for one could have used a little less twang and one less intermission (of one)."
