Forever Brooklyn

Sounds like a dream, no? Well, not quite. His family doesnít want him to leave Brooklyn. Also, heís been pressed into service, against his will, as a bagman for the Mob thatís been ruling Brooklyn with an iron fist. The Mob doesnít want Mel to leave Brooklyn behind. If he does, there will be a price to be paid. And, oh yes: Along the way, he falls in love. What does Mel do? Forever Brooklyn is a show for everyone who misses Brooklyn or New York (and there are thousands of people transplanted to L.A. from the East Coast who fit that description) , or for anyone living in L.A. who came from somewhere else and somehow just canít forget the place they once called home.

Broadway World - Somewhat Recommended

"...Hopefully people transplanted to Los Angeles from the East Coast, Brooklyn in particular, who see the play will assist in providing Curran with more personal tales of their hometown in the 50s and 60s which would enhance the story line and add more authenticity to the setting and flavor of the piece as it continues to evolve."

"...DiTorrice plays all the characters deftly, including Mel's relatives, the Mob boss, Johnny Carson, and all the other wonderful folks who make up his story. His voice, while not great, is passable - and apparently some of the Yiddish songs were quite familiar to audience members - many of them sang along."

"..."Forever Brooklyn!" would make even the hardest of hearts long for the familiar sounds, people and even the smells of the place in the world that formed you, however hard we may all try sometimes to shake it."

Stage Raw - Somewhat Recommended

"...Playwright Mark Wesley Curran's new play Forever Brooklyn! A Kosher Musical Comedy follows a young Jewish kid from Brooklyn desiring to forge his own path. A nostalgic, unsentimental flashback to simpler times, the story is predominately told through silly, satirical song spoofs and sweet-but-surface impersonations. While the storytelling is often charming, the script ultimately lacks chutzpah."
