"...Although there are times when the performers she gets plenty pissed off, self-pity is not part of DRIVER'S SEAT's makeup. Not necessarily one to turn the other cheek when hit with misfortune, Brelis does express gratitude for the people who assisted her on the journey...even for the rotter of an ex-boyfriend...even though she lit a bonfire in the backyard and ceremoniously "burned his sh-t.""

"...There's something to be said for Ellie Brelis's stepping up to confront her own life..so far.. Laying bare her OCD (Obsessive / Compulsive Disorder), sundry addictions and brief glances into her own sexuality must be a huge task. Most touching, midst the rants of a failed relationship with a man and his gifts of mugs, Ellie eulogizes her loving and generous Graddad, supplemented by terrific projections by Nick Wass and a voice mail from the old guy himself."

"...However, these examples proved to be the highlights of a show that more often relied on generalities; too much of the monologue felt like an essay spoken aloud instead of a living, breathing piece of performance. “Show, don’t tell” is the world’s most tired criticism, but Driver’s Seat could have benefited from more scenes like those above instead of neat summaries of Brelis’s feelings and the lessons she learned. While saying that a particular time or relationship was significant gets across the message that it was, it’s never as powerful as feeling like you’re in the speaker’s shoes. Many of the efforts at dark comedy also felt strained; the attempts at “crazy ex-girlfriend” humor seemed more frightening than funny."
