Set in the shipbuilding community in Tyne and Wear, UK, The Last Ship tells the story of a young man who returns home after 17 years at sea. Tensions between past and future flare in both his family and his town. He finds that the local shipyard, around which the community has always revolved, is closing, and no one knows what will come next, only that a half-built ship towers over the terraces of working-class homes. With the engine fired and pistons in motion, picket lines are drawn as the foreman and his wife fight to hold their community together in the face of the gathering storm. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to see Sting star in this “thrilling and stirring musical” (The Guardian).

Not a Genuine Black Man Jan 15 - Jan 22, 2020
Stephanie Feury Studio (SFS) Theatre Not a Genuine Black Man

The longest-running solo play in San Francisco theater history and off-Broadway hit comes to L.A. for two special performances. In 1971, the National Committee Against Discrimination in Housing called San Leandro, California “a racist bastion of white supremacy.” Newsweek and CBS covered the story. The US Commission on Civil Rights conducted hearings. And then, we moved to town." So begins Brian Copeland’s legendary tale of laughter tears and sociology. As a child, he was persecuted for being black. As an adult, he was persecuted for not being “black enough”. In this powerful show presented at the Stephanie Feury Studio Theatre in Los Angeles, Brian explores how our surroundings make us who we are.

The irreverent farce “about the comedy of Broadway” at Santa Monica’s Morgan-Wixson Theatre is alternately raucous, ridiculous and tender.

Beautiful - The Carole King Musical Jan 19 - Jan 20, 2020
Fox Performing Arts Center Beautiful - The Carole King Musical

Long before she was Carole King, chart-topping music legend, she was Carol Klein, Brooklyn girl with passion and chutzpah. She fought her way into the record business as a teenager and, by the time she reached her twenties, had the husband of her dreams and a flourishing career writing hits for the biggest acts in rock 'n' roll. But it wasn't until her personal life began to crack that she finally managed to find her true voice. BEAUTIFUL tells the inspiring true story of King's remarkable rise to stardom, from being part of a hit songwriting team with her husband Gerry Goffin, to her relationship with fellow writers and best friends Cynthia Weil and Barry Mann, to becoming one of the most successful solo acts in popular music history. Along the way, she made more than beautiful music, she wrote the soundtrack to a generation.
