Chasing Mem'ries

Geffen Playhouse
10886 Le Conte Avenue Los Angeles

Husband-and-wife songwriting duo Alan and Marilyn Bergman have blessed the great American songbook with such classics as "The Way We Were" and "What Are You Doing the Rest of Your Life?" Now, playwright Josh Ravetch has tapped their timeless talents for his new Tyne Daly-helmed musical Chasing Mem'ries. The show features a selection of pre-existing songs with lyrics by the Bergmans and music by composers including Marvin Hamlisch and Michel Legrand. Daly stars as a woman not quite ready to let go of the life she's loved and the love of her life. Ravetch returns to the Geffen with a beautiful ode to love, nostalgia and our resistance to the passage of time. Robert Forster (Jackie Brown, Twin Peaks) co-stars in this world premiere production at the Gil Cates Theater.

Stage Scene LA - Somewhat Recommended

"...Tyne Daly rises above the material she’s been given in Chasing Mem’ries: A Different Kind Musical, though if by “different,” book writer Josh Ravetch means clichéd, maudlin, sitcommy, and song-deficient, then this Geffen Playhouse World Premiere “musical” is indeed quite different from the rest."

Stage Raw - Somewhat Recommended

"...Chasing Mem’ries: A Different Kind of Musical at the Geffen Playhouse proves that grieving is complicated and memories are uneven and fickle. This world premiere musical explores the terra incognita of life after tremendous loss, and is at times too cluttered by memories past."
